- St. Francis Xavier's Seminary, Peyad
It is said that the heart of a diocese is the Seminary where the future priests are formed to carry out their mission. From the time when the diocese of Neyyattinkara was errected, the people of the diocese thought of having our own Minor Seminary.
In order to clarify the Vision and Mission of the diocese and of its future
ministry in a pluralistic context a meeting was convened on February, 1997
at Kottiyam, consisting of the members of whole Presbyterium, and
representatives of religious priests, sisters and laity. On this LIVING
TOGETHER the expressed desire of members was taken into
consideration and decided to have a Diocesan Minor Seminary immediately.
The purpose of having a Minor Seminary is to nourish the spiritual needs
of the people of the diocese and to foster indigenous vocation to priesthood.
This dream was fulfilled on 1st November, 1997 with the blessing and inauguration of St. Francis Xavier's Seminary at Ezhakode, Peyad, by His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Vincent Samuel, Bishop of Neyyattinkara.
On 10th June, 2002 the Block A and Block B buildings were completed and blessed. Now we can accommodate about 50 students in the Seminary.
Rt. Rev. Msgr. S. Thomas and Rev. Fr. Xavier Raj were appointed as its first Rector and Vice Rector respectively.
On 1st November, 2000 Rev. Dr. Vincent K. Peter was appointed Pro-Rector of the Seminary.
On 1st June, 2002 onwards Very Rev. Dr. Vincent K. Peter was appointed Rector.
